TURNKEY
- The intent of a 'turnkey' system is to provide a full data management
system (internet accessible only... no local hardware provided) with a minimum
of training and design steps. The presumption is that all details
will be handled outside your region (online setup, pre-race registration,
record monioring, data distribution at rack, hardware, etc.) This
is not considered to be ideal but may be appealing for regions that have not
seen an automated data system in operation. It is offered with the
hope that any such employment will be temporary and serve to train your own
people to adopt this system.
Brief pre-race training for specialty
chiefs and stewards will be available prior to opening registration.
During the event weekend, data distribution, problems, requests,
etc will be handled by at least one specialist provided by us. The
cost will be $900 per full day (Friday evening registration is not counted)
plus expenses for the data system specialist. |

ONLINE
PAYMENTS There are a number of issues that have historically impeded
this function. The first is fixed costs. Up front bank
fees and card processing fees vary enormously. The second is security.
Any system that handles sensitive data must be secure and
credible. The third is intrusiveness. Although there are simple
and easily integrated card processing companies on the web, some require an
intrusive amount of personal information up to and including access to personal
bank accounts¹. We currently support VeriSign as the online card
processing intermediary. They were used successfully in this system
for the 2003 and 2004 National Runoffs.
In the future, other options may
be made available
--------------------- ¹Paypal
requires full name, address, phone, and card number to start, access to bank
account when lifetime aggregate of purchases exceeds $2,000. |

WHAT'S THE
COST? Once a region has an area setup and configured, there are no
anticipated ongoing charges for the use of the system. An initial contribution
per region is requested to support this ongoing effort. $950 is suggested which
is consistent with the support already provided by SEDIV regions.
